The Internet is freaking out again! Jaden Smith sported a black and white dress to prom with his sickening date, actress Amandla Stenberg. Jaden looked prom classic with a basic black sports coat over a black dress with a bold white stripe around the bottom. Wait, a minute! What did I just write? A boy wearing a dress? Oh hell nah!
Americans all over the country were losing their shit as Amandla and Jaden posed for prom pics with Jaden wearing a dress. But I am wondering why. This is the child of artistic Hollywood parents who appear to have raised well adjusted children who have the option to explore the different facets of their personality. Furthermore, we have seen Jaden in dresses before. So what is the big deal?
Why can't a person simply wear a dress? What or who does it hurt when a male wears a dress? Americans cling, stupidly, to convention while the rest of the world zooms on. Other countries are not as concerned with rigid standards of gender roles, yet Americans act as if they have been given some special prophecy.
"Gay Prophecy On The End Of Time 173: If the world suffers a man who dons women's garments to live, the world shall stop spinning and commence its rapid descent into the jaws of hell."
People in America need to learn to release this insanely judgmental behavior. We put so much time and energy into suppressing women, demonizing the gender non-conformers, and dehumanizing Black people in the U.S. that it has become the American Way. Here, in this story of a young Black male wearing a dress, we have the swirling of all three of those issues. We have lost the meaning of the word that supposedly started this country - FREEDOM.
