We all know that Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is "controversial" to say the least. Bluntly, he is an ass. By clinging to conservative ideas of yesterday, Cruz goes around the country and world espousing what I can only classify as hate speech. Many conservatives would argue with that characterization and say that I am just a part of the "PC Police". To them I pose the following: If Ted Cruz does not have hate in his heart that he expresses on national and international platforms, what would you call his "joke" about Vice President Joe Biden only days after the death of his son Beau Biden? I call it hate!
Cruz was at a gathering in Detroit, giving a speech. During which he said, "Vice President Joe Biden. You know the nice thing? You don't need a punch line." This was mere days after the Vice President lost his son Beau Biden to brain cancer. Cruz is vying to be the President of the United States of America and yet has the mean-spirited nature of a psychopathic toddler. The fact that he was able to make such a callous remark at a time of great pain for Joe Biden is clue a that Cruz lacks both empathy and maturity. Two things that I would say are important as a world leader with the ability to start a war.
Of course, his presidential campaign doesn't want you to think that he is an insensitive prick. So in an apology on Facebook, The Ted Cruz Account said, "It was a mistake to use an old joke about Joe Biden during his time of grief, and I sincerely apologize. The loss of his son is heartbreaking and tragic, and our prayers are very much with the Vice President and his family." Of all the ways in which we can disseminate information in 2015, his handlers put out one half-hearted apology on Facebook. No press conference or Open letter to the Veep or Video statement or even personal letter to Vice President Biden. Instead, he and his cronies issued a statement on social media. The method of Cruz' apology is almost as pathetic as he.
What makes this situation worse is the response of Cruz supporters on Facebook. These supporters of Cruz write off those who are righty appalled by the behavior as "whack jobs". These people blindly support his hate speech and attempt to change the conversation from a horrid comment by a Presidential candidate to perceived failings of an administration led by a completely different person. Let these comments from his Facebook post sink in...

Kathy Thompson You liberal trolls are absolutely amazing (and horrifying). You condemn and mock and spew vicious threats against a man who is recognizing and apologizing for speaking out of turn. Then on top of that, you call him names such as classless. Have you seriously ever looked in the mirror or listened to yourself? Or do you consider yourself so perfect and above the fray that you can sit in judgment of others you disagree with politically? People like you make me believe there is no hope for America.

The political, as well as societal, tide in this country has shifted in a way that basic decency is being thrown out the window in favor of crass and divisive rhetoric. Rather than seeking to understand each other, many in this country dig in our heels in pursuit of our selfish aspirations. While this may seem small and petty, it is a glimpse of the "man" that you are getting when you vote for Ted Cruz 4 President.
